“It is truly the most optimistic and encouraging place I have ever been.”

Volunteer
Make a difference – Last year,
over 3,200 volunteers provided 50,000 hours of service to our clients. One of
the most common themes among volunteers was the feeling that through giving,
they received even more in return – a sense of compassion, of hope and of gratitude
for the blessings in their own lives.
We invite you to spend some time playing with babies, tutoring children, feeding
the homeless, cooking for seniors, helping in our resale shop or planning a fundraiser
at St. Vincent de Paul Center! For information on lending a helping hand, contact
Molly Savage at (312) 943-6776 ext. 2220 msavage@svdpc.org

Greater Chicago Food Depository
Help the Greater Chicago Food Depository, St. Vincent de Paul Center and Marillac
Social Center feed the poor this fall!
For every hour volunteered at the Greater Chicago Food Depository sorting
and organizing food, $5 will be donated to feed the children of low-income
families, the homeless and at-risk seniors served by St. Vincent de Paul Center
and Marillac Social Center.
For anyone interested in making a difference from their own home, the Food
Depository needs individuals to hand-write letters to their donors. All materials
will be provided for the volunteers.
Each hour spent helping the Greater Chicago Food Depository will relieve food
costs for both Marillac Social Center and St. Vincent’s.
To find out more about this great opportunity to help, contact Andrew Berg
at (312) 943-6776 ext. 2220.
Jefferson Awards
In 1972, Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis, U.S. Senator Robert Taft Jr. and Sam
Beard founded the American Institute for Public Service, a 501(c)3 public foundation,
to establish a Nobel Prize for public and community service – The Jefferson
Awards. The Jefferson Awards are presented on two levels: national and local.
National award recipients represent a “Who’s Who” of outstanding Americans.
On the local level, Jefferson Awards recipients are ordinary people who do
extraordinary things without expectation of recognition or reward.
To help identify and celebrate these “Unsung Heroes,” the Institute has developed
a partnership with over 150 Chicago Media Partners – local newspapers, television
and radio stations. Among these include NBC-5, Clear Channel and the Chicago
Sun Times. Recipients of the Jefferson Award will be aired monthly on NBC-5
and recognized throughout the Chicago media.
