43rd Ward Summer Safety Festival
Annual Bicycle Safety Event for Children
CHICAGO – 43rd Ward Alderman Michele Smith, St. Vincent de Paul Center and Children’s Memorial Hospital have teamed up to host families and residents at the 11th annual 43rd Ward Summer Safety Festival on Saturday, August 6 from 9:00 a.m. – Noon at the St. Vincent de Paul Center, 2145 N. Halsted St. This free event is targeted to keep children safe throughout the busy summer bicycling season.
Summer Safety Festival offers a wide-range of presentations about techniques to better navigate Chicago’s streets and lakefront. The Safety Squad will provide information on bicycle safety as well as proper car seat installation. The City of Chicago’s Bike Ambassadors will demonstrate smart ways to lock bicycles, proper helmet fit and equipment checks.
In addition, live music and entertainment by the Old Town School of Folk Music will be offered as well as goodie bags, refreshments and a raffle including a bicycle, gift certificates for merchandise, and tickets to cultural and sporting events around Chicago. The Lincoln Park Chamber of Commerce will offer a coloring station, temporary tattoos and other interactive activities for children. Local advocacy organization, Working Bikes, will collect unused bikes for recycling and donation overseas.
Also, the Nearly New Thrift Store will be hosting a Garage Sale at St. Vincent de Paul Center from 9am-1pm on August 6th. Items will be priced to move. Come out and support a great cause while getting a great deal.
